Last week, I organised my first Westminster Hall Debate on the subject of defence procurement. The Prime Minister has announced an unprecedented increase in defence spending and it’s my view that this must go towards supporting British shipbuilders and domestic manufacturers who are reeling from the impact of Covid-19. At Cammell Laird alone, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s new Fleet Solid Support Ships could secure hundreds of jobs and bring much-needed investment into our community.

I was very glad to be joined by so many Labour colleagues in the debate chamber.
